"Entrance to Taos Cañon" 24 x 20 oil on canvas Joseph Henry Sharp 1859 – 1953 SOLD |
Joseph Henry Sharp is considered the spiritual father of the "Taos Society of Artists". He was born in Bridgeport, Ohio, in 1859. He studied in Germany, Belgium, and France in the late 1800s. He first visited Taos in 1893 and returned numerous summers to paint for short periods of time. In 1908 Sharp established a permanent home in Taos his "first love and stomping ground".
This painting shows his great sensitivity to the color and form of his beloved Taos.
