Wade, a native of New York State and descendant of the first chief justice, John Jay, was accepted to the Royal Academy in London at age 17. While there, she won the Landseer Prize for her sculpture depicting the "The Taming of a Horse."
Following her return to the U.S., Wade did commission work in sculpture and illustrating. Her clients included prominent racing personalities William Woodward Sr., James Butler, F. Ambrose Clark, Richard K. Mellon, and Mrs. John Hanes and among the sculptures she crafted was one of Woodward's 1930 Triple Crown winner Gallant Fox. It was during this period that she had a small exhibition in New York's Sporting Gallery and Bookshop in 1936.
At age 86, Wade sculpted a bronze of champion steeplechaser Lonesome Glory. The sculpture is owned by the horse's owner, Mrs. Walter Jeffords Jr. In 1997, an exhibit was established at the National Museum of Racing in which 27 of Wade's bronzes were displayed. The Museum currently is home for her sculpture Ruffian With Groom and Vasquez Up. Jacinto Vasquez rode the great filly in most of her starts.
